More About the Event

Every year one of the toughest mountain stages of the Tour de France is selected to be that year’s Etape du Tour. The 2023 Etape du Tour de France will take place on Sunday 9 July 2023 in the French Alps. The 2023 Tour de France stage that has been chosen is Stage 14 which takes place on Saturday 15 July between Annemasse and Morzine.

The 2023 Etape du Tour takes place on Sunday 9 July 2023, and it replicates stage 14 of the 2023 Tour de France which will take place 6 days later on Saturday 15 July. It will be the 16th time that the Tour de France finishes in Morzine.
The start is in Geneva’s commuter town on the French side of the border; Annemasse. The finish is in Morzine and the famous Portes de Soleil ski area.

There are four categorised climbs on the route and a series of smaller mountains that will make this a tough challenge. The Col de Cou (7 kilometres at 7.4%) and Col du Feu (5.8 kilometres at 7.8%) need to be conquered in the first part of the route.
The final 65 kilometres of the route are the same as in 2016 with two big climbs – Col de la Ramaz and Col de Joux Plane and a descent into Morzine. In 2016 the Col de la Ramaz was cut out of the Etape du Tour route due to a landslide, but many still struggled on the Joux Plane in hot conditions.
The Col de la Ramaz is 13.9 kilometres long with an average of 7.1%. After the descent and about 10 kilometres in the valley the Joux Plane starts. The Joux Plane is 11.6 kilometres long with an average of 8.5%. After a few kilometres cruising at 1650m altitude you will descend into Morzine. The last few hundred metres are a false flat uphill to the line.

If you are interested in cycling the most famous Gran Fondo/ Sportive in the world, book your place on the Etape du Tour de France and ride one of the best mountain stages of the 2023 Tour de France. The 2023 route will again include awesome climbs in one of the world’s best cycling regions.
The first Etape du Tour took place in 1993, allowing amateur cyclists the opportunity to race over the same ground as the pros during the Tour de France. The roads are closed during this sportive, and refreshment stops can be expected along the way, replicating a stage of the Tour de France in every possible way. Our team on the ground are local to the area and have years of experience to ensure that you get the most out of your Etape du Tour experience with us.
