Glorious Gravel: Peak District - West
Starting & finishing in charming Buxton, this ride takes in some of the most picturesque parts of the Peak District with a route on gravel tracks for 60% & quiet lanes for 40%. In 81km you will ride both tarmac & gravel climbs, follow Rive Dove and explore parts of the Peaks most people never see. The ride starts sharply with a gravel climb straight from the off on the Old Macclesfield Road and stays lumpy for most of the first 30km. The second half of the ride is easier with some spectacular scenery around Hartlington and 10km of relatively flat terrain before a lumpy last 5km. At the finish we have a social pint or coffee to celebrate the day before heading home.

Route Notes
Event Director's Notes:
This 81km route involves two loops from Buxton - a 27km section heading north and a 51km section to the south. The first loop is punchy with multiple climbs on both gravel & tarmac including the steep Old Macclesfield Road climb straight from the start. The route heads back to Buxton via the reservoirs and the middle section is relatively quick all the way to Hartlington as we follow the River Dove south before turning north sharply and tackling the 5km climb of Biggin Dale. The last 20km is pretty flat apart from a couple of lumps near home.

Preparing for the Ride
Our events are open to all off-road bikes. While it is aimed primarily at Gravel & Adventure bikes, which are essentially fat tyred drop bar bikes, you are also most welcome on a mountain bike or cyclocross bike. We recommend a tyre width of 33+mm for most for our rides.Â
What to bring : You will be further from van support or facilities you would find in most towns than with our road trips so it is advisable to take a little more with you.Â
GPS device with route loaded , Spare tube or Tubeless plug , Pump and/or CO2 , Mini tool , Jacket and/or additional layersÂ
We will email you the GPX route & a full breakdown of the route one week before the ride. Our route director will then be at the start to give you last minute advice and tips. You will be asked to select a start window which we will then confirm one week before the ride to ensure you roll out in group sizes based on current restrictions.
