A classic climb in the middle of the island. The route goes out to Pollensa and then through the middle of the island through some sleepy villages until you reach Randa. The climb has some Ventoux qualities in that it can be seen for miles and has a weather station at the top. The climb is pretty gentle with some incredible views of the island. At the top of the climb there is a monastery with a coffee shop. We love the restaurant back in Randa selling local foods at a bargain price (3 course lunch for €8 anyone?). The route home is picturesque with some rolling terrain before a spring back along the coast. A great ride, well worth trying to get some variety in your week.
Formentor Loop. 41km, 1300m
One of the great rides in Mallorca, the lighthouse loop is very rolling packing in 1300m of climbing into just 41km. There is a cafe (cash only) at the lighthouse making this a great half day ride or recovery ride. Heading out of Port de Pollensa, you climb straight away up a gentle 3km hill where there is a busy car park. You can continue to climb higher or stay on the road to Formentor, descending at first before an up and down route all the way to the lighthouse. As with most rides on the island, starting early will give you emptier roads and some beautiful light in exchange for being a bit cooler, check out the formentor loop GPX route here.
Alaro Loop. 121km, 1221m
A long but relatively flat ride in the lanes before climbing the remote Col d’Honor. The ride starts in the lanes from Port de Pollensa through Sa Pobla before coming out in Bunyola. This is a gateway town to the mountains and is often packed with cyclists. While most people are on their way to Soller, we turn to the remote Col d’Honor away from the traffic. This loop goes past the village of Orient and is one of the most quiet parts in Mallorca. After a fun descent to Alaro, we follow the lanes all the way home. Check out the Alaro Loop GPX route here.
Col de Soller Loop. 136km, 2136m
A similar start to the Sa Calobra ride, the first climb is the Coll de Femenia before rolling to the top of Sa Calobra. From here, we follow the main road to the highest point of the island at Puig Major. Through the road tunnel there is a long and quick descent into Soller. From here, we turn onto the Col de Soller, a real highlight on Mallorca. This climb is very quiet and packed with sharp hairpins. There is a nice coffee stop at the top before a brilliant descent before a flat ride home through the lanes. Check out the Col de Soller Loop GPX route here.
Centre of Mallorca. 98km, 636m
A long but flat day into the middle of Mallorca over roads less ridden. This takes you into the middle of the island to see a completely different side to the seaside resorts or mountain villages. This is quite a traditional island with popular local markets, neat farms and great local restaurants serving snails, rabbit and game – a really nice change from the international coastal towns. Do this ride on Wednesday if you want to visit the famous market in Sineu. You can easily add Puig Randa onto this route. Look at the centre of Mallorca GPX route here.
Coffee Spin. 70km, 423m
The urge when you are in Mallorca for a week is to smash it every day but you can end us massively over-training. If you want an easier day on the bike, you can go to Formentor but for a flat route head into the pretty countryside inland from Playa de Muro. A cracking short ride to spin and take it easy in between harder rides. Pollensa or Muro make good coffee stops. You can find the Coffee Spin GPX route here.
Arta Out & Back. 99km, 929m
Another side of the island that is often missed by riders. This 99km out and back takes in a hidden hermitage above Arta with great views back down the bay. The climb from Arta to the hermitage is 6km at 4% but the rest of the route is easy. Find the Arta Out & Back GPX route here.
San Salvador Loop. 139km, 1120m
Another great stand alone climb on the island. Difficult to reach from Port de Pollensa requiring a long ride to get there. The climb starts out of Felanitx and lasts 5km at 7%. There are some stunning hairpins and tougher sections before you hit the monastery at the top with some incredible views of the island. Check out the San Salvador GPX route here.
