UCI Gran Fondo World Championships with Sportive Breaks
The biggest sportive event of the year. The 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Scotland sees riders from around the world compete for the rainbow jersey in the Time Trial and Road Race. The pinnacle of sportive racing. To qualify, enter one of the events that’s part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series and all you have to do is finish in the top 20% of your age group.
2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Scotland
Sportive Breaks are the official fan and amateur participant travel and experiences provider of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and Scotland. This is the first time that 13 different cycling world championship disciplines will take place at the same time in one venue and the Gran Fondo World Championships are part of it. The Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo will take place on Friday 4th August 2023 and the Time Trial on Monday 7th August.

UCI Gran Fondo World Championships
The 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will take place in Glasgow and Scotland. the venues for the two events will be confirmed at a later date. The event brings together qualifying cyclists from all over the world. The winner in each age group will have the honour of wearing the coveted rainbow jersey for a year as official UCI Gran Fondo world champion.
Launched in 2011, the UCI Gran Fondo World Series (formerly known as the UCI World Cycling Tour) is a series of UCI-sanctioned road races held all over the world. Throughout the 2022-2023 season, a series of events will qualify the top 20% in each age group for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The age group winners of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are awarded the UCI rainbow jersey. The qualifier events are open to riders of all levels: those who aim to make the podium and others who wish to cross the finish line in the best possible time. For more information: http://www.ucigranfondoworldseries.com/
The Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo take place on Friday 4th August 2023 with a route that starts and finishes in a location to be confirmed in Scotland. The Time Trial takes place on Monday 7th August in a location TBC.

Wednesday 2 August 2023 : Arrival Day for 6 night stays and 3 night Gran Fondo stays
Please make your own arrangements to arrive at your chosen hotel or meet us at Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport. We will run regular transfers from both airports today. Please allow an hour from your flight landing time to your transfer time, to allow you to get through passport control and collect your luggage.
What about my bike?
You can bring your own bike as we have made arrangements to transport bike boxes on our airport transfers. Alternatively, you can rent a bike with us for the weekend. Our mechanic will be available this afternoon at the hotel to assist you with fitting your rental bike or building your own bike after travel. Bikes can be safely stored at the hotel.

We offer a variety of hotels to suit different budgets. Our hotels are al located at just a few minutes from the start and the finish of the Gran Fondo.
The hotel is booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Some hotels also have evening meals included. You will also have free access to the following:

Thursday 3 August 2023 : Arrival day & Gran Fondo Recon day
Two-Night stay
We offer a two-night stay for the Gran Fondo for UK riders. We will not offer airport transfers today. Please make your own arrangements to arrive at your chosen hotel. If you decide to arrive today, please arrive in plenty of time to check into your hotel, prepare your bike and register/ sign on for tomorrow’s event at the event village.

Itinerary for Wednesday arrivals
After breakfast we will assist all those who haven’t built their bikes yet after arriving yesterday. This afternoon, join us on our first ride. We offer a guided ride to discover the Gran Fondo course.
Late afternoon and early evening, our tour leaders and bike mechanics are available for you.
Race Briefing
This evening our bike guides will do a race briefing to run through race day logistics and of course the route. We will have an evening meal together at the hotel (where included).
Friday 4 August 2023 : Gran Fondo day
After a decent breakfast head down to the start area. Our hotels are all located within cycling distance of the start and the finish. Our chef de mission is at the race village all day to help if you have any issues.
From 17.00 – 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships Podium ceremonies
This evening our team will assist with re-packing your bikes ahead of travel tomorrow.
Trip Extension Elite Road Races
The road races for elite men and women will take place in Glasgow On Saturday 5 August the juniors will race and on Sunday 6 August the Men’s Elite riders will tackle the course around Glasgow.
Stay with us for 1 or 2 nights in Glasgow and book VIP hospitality with us (optional). Transport from the Gran Fondo venue to Glasgow is included with your extension tour.
Saturday 5 August : Departure day Gran Fondo & arrival day for Time Trial
After breakfast please check out of your hotel if you stayed with us for the 2 or 3 night Gran Fondo itinerary. We provide airport transfers back to Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. Alternatively join our extension to watch the junior and men’s elite road races in Glasgow.
Time Trial
Please make your own arrangements to arrive at your chosen hotel or meet us at Glasgow or Edinburgh Airport. We will provide regular transfers. Please allow an hour from your flight landing time to your transfer time, to allow you to get through passport control and collect your luggage.
Our mechanics are available on arrival to assist with fitting rental bikes and building bikes after travel.
This afternoon and evening you are free to enjoy the hotel’s facilities and we will have the evening meal together at the hotel (where included).
Sunday 6 August : ITT Recon day
After breakfast and any final bike adjustments, we will take you on a supported, guided ride exploring the Time Trial course. A short coffee spin has been organised to keep your legs moving, but nothing too strenuous the day before the Time Trial.

This evening our bike guides will do a race briefing to run through race day logistics and of course the route. We will have an evening meal together at the hotel (where included).
Monday 7 August : Time Trial Day
Today is the day! We have an early start this morning. Early breakfasts are arranged in the hotel restaurant.
Getting to the start
Our staff will be on hand this morning if you have any last-minute mechanical issues, or if you need directions to the start line.
Tuesday 8 August : Departure day
Departure day. We are running airport transfers back on Monday to Edinburgh and Glasgow airport.
Sportive Options
The courses will be announced at a later date. Women up to the 45 – 49 age group and men up to the 65 – 69 age group will take part in the Gran Fondo long distance. Women and men in the older age groups will compete on the Medio Fondo short distance. On the Time Trial all age groups will do the same distance.
