The fight for the Rainbow Jersey in Glasgow!

The world’s elite cyclists will head to Scotland in August 2023 to compete for the world champion’s jersey! 

The Men’s annual race has been taking place since 1927 and has seen the likes of Peter Sagan and Eddy Merckx win the coveted rainbow stripes on three occasions. Can Remco Evenepoel keep it for an extra year? Can Alaphilippe win it back? Or will we have a new winner? 

The Women’s race made its debut in 1958, and while European nations have dominated this event, is it time the jersey is passed further afield or will the reigning champion Annemiek Van Vleuten keep a tight hold of the rainbow stripes for another year? 

There are also the Women’s Junior, Men’s Junior and Men’s U23 road races taking place. Zoe Backstedt, who dominated the top podium place in Austrailia will be back to defend her titles.

Events on the Road

On August 6th, the Men’s Race will begin in Edinburgh, before heading out over the Firth of Forth. The riders will take in some breath-taking scenery before heading into Glasgow to battle it out to cross the finish line first. 

On August 13th the Women’s Elite and U23 races and on August 12th the Men’s U23 Race starts in the stunning Loch Lomond, before tackling a course that will decide who claims glory in Glasgow. 

August 5th will see the Junior Men tackle a course taking in the sights of Glasgow, all aiming to cross the finish line with their hands in the air. 

2023 UCI Cycling World Championships
3 - 13 August

In the first event of its kind - never seen nor cycled before - the world’s greatest riders will come together in Glasgow and across Scotland in August 2023 to compete at the highest level over thirteen world championships. Across various venues in Scotland we will celebrate cycling and cycling culture for the first time with this many cycling disciplines on show in the same location. Gran Fondo

Amateur riders can be world champions too!! Qualify at a series of events worldwide and represent your country in Scotland at the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships and Time Trial.
